Cape Weligama INDIAN SUBCONTINENT | SRI LANKA | SOUTH COAST
Where trade winds carried legendary explorers like Marco Polo, Ibn Battuta and Fa-Hsien past Sri Lanka's soaring southern cliffs on some of history's most celebrated nautical journeys, Cape Weligama has become the most celebrated resort along this fabled island's palm-fringed shores.
The golden sun rising from the east. The morning calling of the peacocks. The rolling ocean below. The coconut trees swaying to the salty breeze. Pause and reset. From the palm-fringed shores, tropical gardens, and pampering villas and suites that blend into the headland, Cape Weligama is your own slice of paradise. The gateway to southern Sri Lanka envelops you in a world of culture, community and cuisine.
Cape Weligama is a member of the prestigious Relais & Chateaux association of unique hotels and restaurants owned and operated by independent entrepreneurs – most often families – who are passionate about their craft and deeply committed to forging warm, lasting relationships with their guests.

Restaurants & Bars
There are two restaurants and two bars, plus the option of in-villa meals and an array of private experiences from village-style breakfasts to candlelit clifftop dinners for two. Head to the Ocean Terrace, the resorts all-day dining venue for Sri Lankan dishes and views of the sea, or Tableau on the cliff edge for dinner. The Surf Bar and Cove Beach Club are open all day for cocktails, drinks and snacks.
Meal Plan
You have a few options to choose from when it comes to the meal plans at Cape Weligama. These options are Bed & Breakfast only, if you fancy eating out most of the time, Half Board and Full Board, if you think you'll be spending more time at the hotel; and All Inclusive for breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks. You can decide on what works for you and the team will be more than happy to accommodate.
Spa & Wellness
In the Sanctuary Spa’s four elegant and restful treatment rooms, the list of inviting therapies focuses on natural, organic and stress-relieving ingredients. Alternatively, the therapists can create a spa experience for you in your suite or villa. Yoga and meditation classes take place in quiet corners of the 12-acre gardens. The fitness centre, under the Moon Pool, is equipped with Cybex equipment including total body cross trainers, recumbent and upright bikes, treadmills and multigym. If you’d rather pedal through the local countryside, cycle tours can be arranged.
Rooms
The collection of Suites and Villas create the welcoming ambience of a traditional Sri Lankan village. Terracotta-tiled roofs, expansive outdoor verandas and manicured tropical gardens give way to contemporary living quarters with stylish interiors inspired by the island’s prominent maritime heritage.
Sustainability
The buggies used by guests to travel around the 12-acre site were chosen to be as energy efficient as possible. There are collection units along the beach for plastic waste, which is then transformed into cleaning brushes and clothing. The resort’s MJF Charitable Foundation Centre runs several projects to support the local fishing communities. Cape Weligama’s butterfly garden, which is filled with native plants, is also home to a collection of beehives.
