Sitting at the southernmost tip of mainland Asia, adjoining Thailand above and surrounded on all remaining sides by water, Malaysia bears a landscape dominated by dense, lush rainforests teeming with exotic plant life, birds and mammals, fringed by boundless beaches of swamp and sand. Rural fishing villages and stilt built residences make up the communities interspersed throughout the countryside, whilst city life is everything that you would expect from an Asian outpost.

Laying along the busy maritime route of the Malacca strait lies Penang, connected to the mainland by an eight-mile bridge, and home to the UNESCO word heritage city of George Town. Strewn with historical gems including beautiful colonial architecture, classic churches, Buddhist temples and grand mansions on Penang Hill, the island is also affectionately known as Malaysia’s food capital – the street food here is a first class fusion of Indian, Chinese and Asian flavours.

Malaysia’s Garden City of Lights - both neon and lightning derived - Kuala Lumpur is home to the soaring Petronas Towers that outline the famous cityscape against an azure sky. Down below, ancient mosques, churches and temples line the street of the Old Town, whilst lush countryside surrounds the suburbs. Food stalls, handcrafted batik silks and colourful paintings jostle for attention within the Central Market, the air laden with wafts of coconut curry, satay and spicy sambal. Not far from the city the tea plantations of the Cameron Highlands line the mountains, covering the sheer terrain like a vivid emerald knitted blanket.

The coastal shores and clear waters across the Malay Archipelago provide some of the best snorkeling and scuba diving that Asia has to offer. The little Andaman island of Langkawi to the north west is famed for limestone cliffs, stunning palm fringed beaches and a deep coral reef, hiding nemo fish and barracuda, whilst the secluded paradise of Redang Island to the east is home to undiscovered beaches, sea turtles and tiny sharks. Further inland, elephants, rhinos, tigers, and orangutans can be found in their natural habitat at Taman Negara National Park in central Malaysia.
