DAY 1
COLOMBO
You will be met on arrival by Tailored Journeys representatives and your chauffeur-guide will accompany you to your colonial hotel in central Colombo. The journey time is approximately 1 hour, depending on local traffic conditions.
After checking in to your rooms and settling down, your guide will return in the evening to take you on a brief tour of the city followed by dinner at a local restaurant. The restaurant we use in Colombo is the Beach Wadiya, patronised by Princess Anne, members of the Napalese Royal family and many of our own clients. The location and the settings bring an authentic element to the evening and an ideal way to start your holiday on this paradise island. We can recommend other restaurants for anyone opting for different cuisine.
Accommodation: The Kingsbury Colombo
DAY 2-4
KANDALAMA
Your driver-guide will meet you at the hotel and accompany you to the central region of the island, also known as the cultural triangle. The total journey can take up to 4 hours including stops for sites along the way.
You can make the short journey to climb the Rock Fortress of Sigiriya. There are easy steps for the first half of the climb and then steps cut into the rock and with the help of a railing for the second half of the climb, it is a relatively easy climb to the summit to see the ruins of a palace that once proudly stood at the summit. If you are not fans of climbing or walking long distances then please let us know and we will suggest other sites in the area to visit. An ideal alternate is the ancient city of Anuradhapura, the first capital of Sri Lanka.
Lunch will be enjoyed at a local farmer's house.
You will also visit the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, the second capital of Sri Lanka in the 12th century.
Later in the afternoon, you will set off in an open-top jeep to see herds of wild Elephants (this can be done on any of the evenings during your stay in the area). There are two parks in the area and the park to visit will depend on local knowledge, this will increase the chances of seeing larger herd of elephants in the wild.
Accommodation: Heritance Kandalama
DAY 5
KANDY
Today you set off to the famous hills of the island. Your journey by car for the first part of this route is through miles and miles of tea plantation. You then take your seats in the observation car of the famous train for a memorable journey all the way to Nuwara Eliya. This route is renowned to be one of the most scenic journeys in the world and prior bookings are recommended.
Your chauffeur will continue by car and meet you at your destination before accompanying you on a short drive to your hotel.
Included in your stay is a picnic breakfast packed and ready for a walk in the Horton Plains. This National Park also called the World's End, is a protected area in the central highlands of Sri Lanka and is covered by montane grassland and cloud forest. This plateau at an altitude of 2,100–2,300 metres is rich in biodiversity and many species found here are endemic to the region.
