Whale-Watching 

Of course, whale-watching is at the top of the list! Experience this incredible spectacle of watching the Southern Right Whales from the shore or on a boat tour for a closer encounter to these majestic creatures! 
 
Every year, the whale-watching season starts from June to November and things are kicked off with the Hermanus Wale Festival, where you'll get to listen to live music, taste amazing delicasies from sizzling food trucks, shop for souveniers at the arts and crafts stalls and learn something from the educational exhibits on marine life and conservation. There's even a town 'Whale Crier' who blows into a dry kelp horn whenever a whale surfaces! 

Hemel-en-Aarde Valley 

In between the rolling hills and the vineyard-covered slopes, Hemel-en-Aarde Valley is a gem in the heart of the Western Cape's wine country. Translating to "Heaven and Earth" in Afrikaans, this peaceful valley lives up to its name, offering you a slice of paradise with stunning natural beauty and world-class wine!

Visit a Local Market 

There are many markets in Hermanus & surrounds which are loved by many locals and visitors. From crafts to fresh produce like wines and cheese. 
 
From 9 am to 2 pm, residents and visitors alike meet up at Hermanus Country Market every Saturday morning. Come early, pick up some fresh farm veggies and artisan bread, have coffee and breakfast, meet up with friends, share a bottle of wine, enjoy live music, and shop for handmade crafts while the kids are on the train or have their face painted. The Hermanus Country Market is a family and dog-friendly market with locally produced goods at its heart making it one of the most popular markets in Hermanus. 
 
Also on Saturdays, the Craft Market spans from the original venue on a grassed area in the centre of town to a specially created permanent market stalls a few steps away. Visitors from all over the Cape and the Overberg region have visited this popular market for years to find unique gifts, handmade items, clothing and gifts. 

Cliff Path Walk 

The Cliff Path is a fantastic journey along the rugged coastline, snaking its way through dramatic cliffs and panoramic vistas. Stretching for approximately 12 kilometres, this scenic trail provides an enchanting backdrop for leisurely strolls and invigorating hikes. With each step, you will be treated to breath-taking views of the sparkling Atlantic Ocean, where crashing waves meet the rocky shoreline in a symphony of natural beauty.

Whale-watching Season - June to November 
If witnessing these majestic creatures is at the top of your list, then visiting during whale-watching season is a must. Peak whale activity typically occurs between July and November with September often considered the prime month for sightings. 
 
Summer - December to February 
The summer months in Hermanus bring warm temperatures and clear skies, making it perfect for beach days, hiking and exploring the town. This period is also outdoor festivals and events.  
 
Wine Harvest Season - February to April
