Galle
Resting on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka, Galle (Pronounced ‘gawl’ in English) is the best example of a walled city built by the Portuguese in South Asia in the 16th Century. It was extensively fortified by the Dutch in the 17th century. When you enter the old city gates of this World Heritage Site you can’t help but notice the grand colonial houses and boutique shops and of course the beautiful beaches on the fringes of town. Attracting many luxury travellers from around the world, the town is also a favourite with cricket fans who rate the Galle International Stadium to be one of the most picturesque cricket grounds in the world.

Explore Galle Fort
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Galle Fort is the heart of the city, boasting centuries-old Dutch and British colonial architecture. Wander through its cobbled streets, admire the historic ramparts, and soak in stunning ocean views. The fort is also home to charming cafés, boutique shops, and museums that bring its history to life.
A Day Trip to Unawatuna Beach
Just a short drive from Galle, Unawatuna is one of Sri Lanka’s most famous beaches. With its golden sands, swaying palms, and calm waters, it’s perfect for swimming, snorkelling, or simply relaxing under the sun.
Stilt Fishermen in Koggala
A traditional fishing method unique to Sri Lanka, stilt fishing involves fishermen balancing on wooden poles in the shallow waters. You can witness this iconic sight along the coastline near Koggala, just outside Galle.
