About this itinerary
This trip is the perfect itinerary for a family wanting to visit and get a taste of Vietnam in only 10 days.
Commencing this trip in Hanoi, you will work your way from North to South down the East Coast of Vietnam stopping at various cities and sights along the way, including an overnight stay on a luxury boat in Halong Bay, the ancient city of Hue and the beautiful Victoria Hoi An Beach Resort in Hoi An.
From here you will finish your grand tour in Ho Chi Minh City visiting the Cu Chi Tunnels and the Mekong river before heading back home!
day 1-3 Hanoi
Your family adventure begins in Vietnam's charming capital, Hanoi, where you will be met on arrival and transferred to La Siesta Hotel, one of our favourite boutique properties and perfectly positioned for exploring the city.
During your stay, discover the fascinating history and culture of Hanoi alongside your private guide. Visit some of the city's most important landmarks including Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum, House and Cottage, the One Pillar Pagoda, Temple of Literature and Quan Thanh Pagoda.
You will also spend time exploring the famous Old Quarter, whose history stretches back over 2,000 years. Once home to generations of craftsmen and merchants, it remains the beating heart of Hanoi today, with bustling streets, colourful markets and a lively atmosphere that offers a wonderful introduction to Vietnam.
Venture beyond the city into the surrounding countryside, visiting Co Loa, Vietnam's ancient capital during the 10th century. Explore the remains of its ancient citadel before continuing to Bat Trang, a traditional village renowned for its beautiful ceramic craftsmanship.
Accommodation: AIRA Boutique Hanoi Hotel & Spa
day 4 Halong Bay
Leave the city behind and journey to the spectacular waters of Halong Bay, one of Vietnam's most iconic natural wonders.
Board your overnight Heritage Line cruise and sail amongst a breathtaking landscape of limestone islands rising dramatically from emerald waters. With almost 2,000 islands and islets scattered throughout the bay, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the country's most remarkable sights.
Freshly prepared meals will be served onboard as you cruise through the bay, allowing plenty of time to relax and take in the scenery. As evening falls, children and adults alike may enjoy trying their hand at traditional night fishing from the boat.
Accommodation: Ginger Heritage Line
day 5-6 Hue
Following your cruise, continue south to Hue, Vietnam's former Imperial capital and one of the country's most historic cities.
Situated on the banks of the Perfume River, Hue combines fascinating history with a peaceful atmosphere. During your stay, discover the city's rich imperial heritage and visit some of its most important landmarks, including the Imperial Citadel and the iconic Thien Mu Pagoda.
Your hotel, Azerai La Residence, occupies the former French Colonial Governor's residence and enjoys a beautiful setting overlooking the Perfume River.
You will also visit two of the most impressive royal tombs built by the Nguyen Emperors. The elegant Tomb of Tu Duc, surrounded by tranquil gardens and lotus-filled lakes, contrasts beautifully with the striking architecture of the Tomb of Khai Dinh.

day 7-8 Hoi An
Travel south via the spectacular Hai Van Pass, made famous by Top Gear, before arriving in the enchanting riverside town of Hoi An.
With its colourful lanterns, riverside setting and wonderfully relaxed atmosphere, Hoi An is one of Vietnam's most charming destinations. During your stay at Victoria Hoi An Beach Resort, there will be plenty of time to relax by the beach or pool whilst exploring the town's many cultural treasures.
Wander through the UNESCO-listed Old Town and discover its unique blend of Vietnamese, Japanese, Chinese and French influences. Highlights include the famous Japanese Covered Bridge, historic Chinese communal houses and the beautifully preserved home of merchant Tan Ky.
One of the highlights for families is a traditional lantern-making workshop, where you'll learn about one of Hoi An's most famous crafts and create your own lantern to take home as a special souvenir.

day 4 Halong Bay
Your final stop is Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam's energetic southern metropolis where modern skyscrapers sit alongside colonial architecture and bustling local markets.
Staying at the elegant Park Hyatt Saigon, you'll be perfectly positioned to explore the city's most famous landmarks, including the former Saigon Post Office, Notre Dame Cathedral and the Opera House.
A visit to the remarkable Cu Chi Tunnels offers a fascinating insight into Vietnam's recent history. Stretching for almost 250 kilometres, this underground network once provided shelter and support for thousands of Viet Cong soldiers during the Vietnam War.
You will also venture into the lush Mekong Delta, often referred to as the "Green Venice" of Vietnam. Cruise along the waterways of Ben Tre, visit traditional workshops and learn about local industries that continue to shape daily life in this fertile region.
For a memorable finale, experience Ho Chi Minh City after dark from the back of a vintage Vespa. Discover hidden corners of the city, sample local flavours and soak up the vibrant atmosphere that makes modern-day Saigon so exciting.
