Luxury Tailor-Made Vietnam Holidays Hoi An 2025 & 2026
Hoi An, on Vietnam’s central coast, is completely enchanting. This once-bustling port town offers a colourful blend of French, Chinese and Japanese-influenced architecture, canals, bridges and temples, and the lack of noisy traffic (no cars are allowed on the main streets) means you can discover the town in relative peace and quiet.
Its waterfront area is alive with boutique hotels, eateries, tailor shops for handmade garments, and art and craft shops. If you have time, try to fit in a visit to the ruins of My Son Sanctuary, an ancient Hindu tower temple complex, get custom-made clothing created by a local tailor and pick up one of the many beautiful locally-made Vietnamese lanterns.

Things to do and see in Hoi An
Walk Through the Old City
Hoi An Old City is really a mix of ornate Chinese temples, wooden shop buildings, French-colonial houses and old canals. Most of the old shops have been carefully converted into modern businesses for tourists, including countless tailors for their famous handmade garments, souvenir shops, art galleries, restaurants and cafes.
The best way you can explore this city is on foot. Visit the city both during the day and in the evening, when the lanterns illuminate the old town.
Cycling Through the Countryside
When you think of Vietnam, you will most likely think of the rice fields they are famous for and the rice fields in Hoi An are much more accessible than those further north.
One of the best things you can do in Hoi An is explore the beautiful countryside by bicycle along narrow paths through rice fields. Just a short 10 minute bicycle ride, you will find the locals with water buffalos, so make sure you choose the right season so these fields are nice and green.
Once you have the bicycles, you can then go on to visit the nearby beaches and other notable places in Hoi An.
Take a Cooking Class
A cooking class in Hoi An is a delightful way to immerse yourself in Vietnamese cuisine and culture. Typically, these classes start with a guided tour of a local market where you'll learn about and select fresh ingredients. You'll then head to a traditional cooking school or a local home where a professional chef will guide you through the preparation of several authentic Vietnamese dishes, such as pho, banh xeo (crispy pancakes), and fresh spring rolls.
The experience usually concludes with a delicious meal featuring the dishes you've prepared, offering a hands-on taste of Vietnam’s culinary heritage.
Visit the Markets
Markets are also one of the best places to see the local life. In the middle of the city next to the river you will find the central market where you can really find everything.
Every night there is a Night Market. The 300-meter-long Nguyen Hoang Street changes into a sea of colour, while vendors set up stalls selling everything from handmade jewellery and clothing to delicious snacks. This market is illuminated by hundreds of different coloured lanterns that decorate the street and illuminate the stalls.
Best Time to Visit Hoi An
The best time to visit Hoi An is from February to April. During these months, the weather is typically mild and pleasant, with lower humidity and less rainfall, making it ideal for exploring the ancient town, enjoying outdoor activities, and lounging on the nearby beaches. This period also avoids the peak tourist season, providing a more relaxed experience while still enjoying favourable weather conditions.
