DAY 1-3 

TOKYO 

On arrival you will be met by our local representative and transferred to your hotel where you'll spend the next 3 nights. 
 
Explore some of the capital’s most iconic sights, from the peaceful Meiji Shrine, hidden among towering cedar trees, to the soaring Tokyo Tower, offering panoramic views across the city skyline. Wander through the elegant grounds of the Imperial Palace East Garden, before heading to Asakusa, Tokyo’s old-town district brimming with charm. Here, you’ll find the city’s oldest temple, Senso-ji, and a lively market street perfect for sampling local treats and browsing crafts. 
 
Travel towards the legendary Mount Fuji, and visit the famous 5th Station, where breath-taking views stretch across the surrounding countryside. Continue to Owakudani Boiling Valley, a dramatic volcanic landscape of steaming vents and bubbling hot springs, before gliding high above the mountains on the Hakone Ropeway. A relaxing boat cruise on Lake Ashi completes your adventure, with the iconic silhouette of Fuji reflected in the water.

DAY 4-5 

HIROSHIMA 

Travel from Tokyo to Hiroshima aboard the world-famous Shinkansen bullet train. Sit back and watch as the cityscapes give way to rolling hills, lush countryside, and glimpses of the coastline before arriving in Hiroshima, a city that has risen from its history to become a vibrant hub of peace and resilience. 
 
Embark on a full-day tour for a profound look at Japan’s past and its enduring spirit. Begin with a visit to the moving Peace Memorial Park, before continuing to Miyajima Island, one of Japan’s most picturesque and sacred destinations. Here, the striking Itsukushima Shrine, with its iconic “floating” torii gate, appears to rise gracefully from the sea at high tide. KYOTO 

Make your way to Hiroshima Station for your journey on the sleek Shinkansen bullet train bound for Kyoto. Upon arrival, you’ll be warmly greeted by a Tailored Journeys representative, who will escort you to your hotel.  
 
Join a guided walking tour to Nara, home to the colossal bronze Buddha housed within Todai-ji Temple, one of Japan’s most historically significant landmarks, and stroll through Nara Deer Park, where friendly deer freely wander among visitors. Conclude the afternoon at the elegant Kofuku-ji Temple, a symbol of Nara’s deep Buddhist heritage. 
 
Immerse yourself in Kyoto’s spellbinding beauty on a full-day guided tour of its most iconic sites. Begin at Kiyomizu-dera Temple, then continue to Sanjusangen-do, home to a thousand serene statues of Kannon, the goddess of mercy, before visiting the vivid Fushimi Inari Shrine, where thousands of bright vermilion torii gates wind their way up the forested hillside, one of Japan’s most photographed sights. OSAKA 

Make your way to Kyoto Station and board a local train, a short and easy ride that brings you into the heart of Osaka. Upon arrival, head to your hotel and settle in before exploring at your own pace.

DAY 9-11 

BEIJING 

Bid farewell to Japan and set off for Beijing, the magnificent capital of China. You’ll be collected from your Osaka hotel and transferred to the airport for your flight. On arrival in Beijing, your local representative will warmly greet you and accompany you to your hotel. En route, enjoy a short stop at the Bird’s Nest Stadium, the iconic centrepiece of the 2008 Olympics. The rest of the day is yours to relax and settle in. 
 
Begin your exploration of Beijing’s fascinating history and imperial heritage. Start at Tiananmen Square, before continuing to the Forbidden City, an immense palace complex that served as the seat of Chinese emperors for nearly 500 years. Wander through its golden roofs, ornate halls, and tranquil courtyards. After lunch at a local restaurant, visit the Temple of Heaven, an architectural masterpiece surrounded by beautiful parkland where locals still gather for tai chi and traditional music. 
 
Walk along the legendary Great Wall of China. After your visit, stop by a local Jade Gallery to see exquisite craftsmanship, before enjoying lunch at a nearby restaurant. In the afternoon, explore the enchanting Summer Palace, a serene lakeside retreat that once served as the royal family’s summer escape. The rest of the day is free for you to unwind or continue discovering Beijing’s vibrant mix of old and new.

DAY 12-13 

XI'AN 

Board the train to Xi’an. Once the starting point of the ancient Silk Road, Xi’an offers a fascinating glimpse into China’s imperial past. Upon arrival, enjoy a visit to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, take time to wander through the lively square that surrounds it, where fountains dance to music and locals gather in the afternoons. Later, you’ll be transferred to your hotel for check-in and an evening at leisure. 
 
Visit the Terracotta Warriors and Horses of Xi’an. Discovered in 1974, this vast underground army of thousands of life-sized soldiers, horses, and chariots was created over 2,000 years ago to guard the tomb of China’s first emperor, Qin Shi Huang. Returning to Xi’an, stroll along the ancient City Wall and this evening, enjoy a spectacular Tang Dynasty Show, complete with traditional music, dance, and costume.

DAY 14-15 

GUILIN 

Head to Xi’an Airport for your flight south to Guilin, a city renowned for its breath-taking karst landscapes and serene rivers. Upon arrival, you’ll be met and transferred to your hotel to settle in before heading out to explore one of Guilin’s most captivating natural wonders - the Reed Flute Cave. Step inside this magnificent limestone cavern, where centuries of mineral deposits have created spectacular stalactites and stalagmites illuminated by soft, colourful lighting. 
 
Take part on a scenic Li River Cruise from Guilin to Yangshuo. Drift along the tranquil river as limestone peaks rise dramatically from emerald-green waters, fishermen glide by on bamboo rafts, and small villages nestle along the riverbanks. On arrival in Yangshuo, enjoy some free time to browse the lively local market, filled with handicrafts, fabrics, and traditional souvenirs. Later, return to Guilin by coach for a relaxed evening at leisure.

DAY 16-17 

CHENGDU 

Transfer to Guilin Airport for your flight to Chengdu, the laid-back capital of Sichuan Province. Upon arrival, you’ll be met and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to unwind and settle in. 
 
Visit the world-renowned Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. Set within lush bamboo forests, this conservation centre offers the rare opportunity to observe these gentle giants up close in a natural environment. The rest of the day is yours to explore Chengdu at leisure, perhaps visiting People’s Park for tea and local life, or strolling through Jinli Ancient Street, filled with colourful shops and street snacks.

DAY 18-20 

YANGTZE RIVER CRUISE 

Head to Chongqing Port, where you’ll board your luxury Yangtze River cruise. Settle into your elegant cabin and take in the views as the ship begins its gentle voyage downstream. 
 
Simply relax and soak up the scenery from the deck or your private balcony. As the ship glides through the famous Three Gorges, you’ll witness some of China’s most breath-taking natural landscapes. Optional shore excursions offer opportunities to explore ancient villages or visit local temples perched high above the river.

DAY 21-23 

SHANGHAI 

After your cruise, head to the airport for your flight to Shanghai. Upon arrival, your guide will greet you and accompany you to your hotel for check-in. The rest of the day is yours to relax and enjoy at leisure. 
 
Explore The Bund, the city’s iconic promenade lined with elegant colonial-era buildings that reflect its cosmopolitan past. From there, step back in time in Old Shanghai, where narrow lilongs (traditional alleyways) offer a glimpse into daily life amid ancient temples and teahouses. Visit the exquisite Yu Gardens and continue to Xintiandi, a chic, revitalised quarter brimming with cafés, galleries, and boutique shops, before wandering through the creative lanes of Tianzifang, where art studios and cosy eateries capture the spirit of modern Shanghai. 
 
Spend your final day in China at leisure, with time to relax or explore at your own pace. You may wish to browse for last-minute souvenirs in Shanghai’s stylish boutiques, sample dim sum at a local restaurant, or simply reflect on the incredible experiences of your journey across Japan and China. When the time comes, you’ll be transferred to the airport for your onward flight.
