Nikko Kanaya Hotel
OVERVIEW
Set on a hillside above the Daiya River near the Shinkyo Bridge in Nikko, just a short walk from the UNESCO-World-Heritage shrines and temples of Nikko.
Established in 1873, the hotel is recognised as Japan’s oldest western-style resort hotel and is a key heritage landmark in the Meiji era of Japan’s opening to the world.
Elevated above the river and nestled among forests and mountains, the hotel offers charming views and a peaceful retreat from the railway lines below.
Over its long history the hotel has hosted major figures including Albert Einstein, Helen Keller and architect Frank Lloyd Wright, and several of its historic wings are designated national tangible cultural properties.
