About this itinerary
This trip is the perfect itinerary for a family wanting to experience the highlights of Cambodia along with visiting the coastal towns of Kep and Kampot too in under two weeks.
Commencing this trip in Siem Reap you will discover the iconic Angkor Wat Complex and be able to take part in mini golf, a gondola boat ride around the area without the crowds and an optional hot air balloon flight. You will also have the opportunity to visit some of the more remote Temples of Angkor. This trip is tailor made to combine the highlights of Cambodia but with fun family activities too. From Siem Reap you will take a short internal flight down to the capital city of Phnom Penh. Once in Phnom Penh, you will visit the National Museum, the largest of the country, the Royal Palace and the chance to try some street food.
The final days of your trip will be spent in the coastal regions of Kep and Kampot, where a visit to Kep National Park, a pepper plantation and the salt fields will fill your final days.
day 1-4 Siem Reap
A special gondola experience near the South Gate of Angkor Thom offers a different perspective of the region, where you can enjoy peaceful views across the surrounding jungle and stop to discover one of the hidden corner temples within the Angkor Thom walls.
You will also have the opportunity to experience Cambodia through local family life. Enjoy a playful mini-golf experience inspired by the Angkor temples before venturing into the surrounding countryside, walking through rice fields and discovering a hidden forest temple away from the tourist trails.
Continue to Trav Kod Lake, a place where local Khmer families often spend time together, with opportunities to relax, swim seasonally, enjoy the hammocks or spend time on the swings and play areas.
Complete your time in Siem Reap with a captive balloon ride, allowing you to admire the magnificent Angkor landscape from above. Along Road 60, discover Cambodia’s vibrant street food culture where local vendors offer everything from fresh fruits and noodles to some more unusual local delicacies.
Accommodation: Sofitel Angkor Phokeethra Golf & Spa Resort
day 5-6 Phnom Penh
Continue to Phnom Penh with a short domestic flight and transfer to your hotel.
During your stay in Cambodia’s lively capital, discover a city where French colonial influences, modern development and historic Khmer culture combine to create a unique atmosphere.
Visit the National Museum, home to one of the world’s most important collections of Khmer sculptures, ceramics and ethnographic artefacts, before continuing to the Royal Palace which dominates Phnom Penh’s skyline.
You will also gain an insight into Cambodia’s more recent history with a visit to Tuol Sleng, the former school which became a prison during the Khmer Rouge period.
Street food remains an important part of daily life in Phnom Penh and offers a fantastic opportunity to experience local culture. During a private experience led by local chef Mr. Nara, sample traditional Khmer dishes and gain a deeper understanding of Cambodia’s rich culinary heritage.
Accommodation: La Rose Suites
day 7-8 Kep
Leave the energy of Phnom Penh behind and continue towards the coast, stopping at Phnom Chisor, an 11th-century temple offering spectacular panoramic views across the surrounding rice fields.
Arrive into Kep, a charming seaside town once considered Cambodia’s most fashionable coastal retreat during the 1950s and 1960s. Today, Kep retains a relaxed atmosphere and is particularly famous for its seafood and coastal scenery.
Explore Kep National Park, one of Cambodia’s most accessible and rewarding natural areas. Walking trails weave through tropical forest landscapes where you may hear rare birds, spot local wildlife and enjoy beautiful views across the region.
Discover more of Kep and nearby Kampot with a local tuk tuk experience, providing an opportunity to enjoy the slower pace of life, learn about local products and uncover some of the region’s hidden highlights.
Accommodation: Knai Bang Chatt Resort
day 9-11 Kampot
Continue to Kampot, stopping along the way to visit traditional pepper plantations and the coastal salt fields.
Surrounded by countryside and riverside scenery, Kampot offers a glimpse into a quieter side of Cambodia. Explore the beautiful rural landscapes by bicycle, travelling through rice fields, local villages, salt farms and pepper plantations whilst observing everyday Khmer life.
A peaceful river cruise provides the perfect opportunity to take in Kampot’s natural beauty, passing mangrove-lined waterways, local fishing boats and riverside communities.
At the end of your Cambodian journey, transfer to Phnom Penh Airport for your onward flight home.
