ABOUT THIS ITINERARY

Start in the lesser known Chyulu Hills, in the stunning and isolated Ol Donyo Lodge. As well as an excellent traditional safari experience, they also have a fantastic photographic hide, a stable full of well trained horses and an amazing sleep-out experience on offer.

Your next stop is the famous Masai Mara, perhaps Africa's most famous reserve and for part of the year, home of the Great Migration of close to two million wildebeest and zebra.

Your last destination is Samburu, the semi arid and mountainous region in the north, known for unique species and a diverse array of activities. Sasaab Samburu is renowned for providing excellent experiences, be it searching for rare species on safari, spotting wildlife while aloft a camel or quad bike, or engaging with the Samburu people in a non-profit excursion to a local village.

DAY 1-3

CHYULU HILLS NATIONAL PARK

After a short but memorable light aircraft flight, spend your first three nights at a unique lodge on private land in the Chula Hills Reserve. The isolation of this lodge and the scale of the vast terrain around you make you feel like the last people on Earth.

The plunge pool on your private verandah is a great place to relax during the heat of the day, if you can tear yourself away from the camps viewing hide overlooking a very active waterhole. A second bed set up for you on the roof of your suite offers you a chance for an unforgettable night listening to hyenas cackle and lions roar under a blanket of stars.

Included in your stay are exciting morning and afternoon game drives, night drives and nature walks as well as the chance to gallop across the plains on horseback on a guided horse safari (experienced riders only). You will also have use of high quality binoculars..

Accommodation: ol Donyo Lodge

DAY 4-6

MASAI MARA

Another light aircraft flight, featuring views of Kilimanjaro followed by the dramatic great rift valley will whisk you to the famous Masai Mara Reserve.

Ishara is an intimate luxury camp in a superb setting, with a wildlife rich river in front of the suites and dining area, and open plains behind, visible from the observation deck and yoga deck. A short distance from camp lies a private waterhole, the perfect spot for unforgettable bush breakfasts and sundowners.

The expansive River suites represent the pinnacle of luxury under canvas, with high quality fittings, luxury bedding, and complimentary mini-bar. Outside on your private verandah you can relax on your double day bed or soak in the vintage double soaker tub overlooking the river.

Ishara breaks the mould by including private game drives as standard for all their guests, and to complement your twice daily game drives, included with your safari is use of high powered binoculars and camera equipment, and for the avid photographers, use of the camps in house photography studio to edit your photos in situ.

During the day when the animals are less active you have a pool, sauna, cold plunge, hot tub and yoga deck to make use of. Alternatively, as your suite is facing the river which regularly attracts thirsty game, you can order lunch and a bottle of bubbles to your verandah and enjoy the show. Both in room dining and exciting bush breakfasts down by the camps waterhole are included with your safari.

Accommodation: Ishara Mara
DAY 4-5

samburu national reserve

Another thrilling flight will take you to the vastly different north of the country. More arid and mountainous, the Samburu region not only holds several unique species not found elsewhere in Kenya (or Africa), but is also culturally rich, being home to the Samburu people.

Sasaab is an intimate lodge with a striking location. Every suite has fantastic views, either overlooking the river or across the plains and can be enjoyed from both your plunge pool on your private verandah or the star bed on your roof.

Twice daily game drives, camel rides, guided walks and bush breakfasts are included in your safari. If you wish, so is a night in Sasaab's immersive fly camp. You'll set out from the lodge on your choice of game vehicle, camel, quad bike (additional cost), or on foot to a simple but comfortable remote camp where you'll dine under the stars and sleep in a simple dome netting to protect you from insects but give you access to the most incredible star filled sky as you fall asleep to the nocturnal calls from the wild. Whilst fly camping is included, we recommend pre-booking to avoid disappointment.

You will also have an opportunity to engage with the Samburu people and local community with included cultural experiences.

Quad biking expeditions and helicopter safari's can also be booked at an additional cost.

Accommodation: Sasaab
